[Haynes] Sacramento Kings guard De’Aaron Fox will withdraw from Team USA to focus on upcoming season with goal of making playoffs, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.

At this point the players are cutting themselves
[–]kaross232 654 points 9 hours ago*
There’s no way he was getting cut right so I’m surprised he withdrew
[–]Celtics Celtics_Forever 75 points 9 hours ago
He probably heard he was getting cut. Uhhh. You can't fire me, I quit!!
[–]Heat heatkings1 319 points 9 hours ago
really doubt he was gonna get cut
[–]Bucks Jamil_Aziz2 27 points 9 hours ago
Yeah, who were the other PGs on the roster?
[–]Heat heatkings1 57 points 9 hours ago
Kemba and smart
[–]DesPratt 53 points 8 hours ago
[–][MIA] Wang Zhizhi DopeMan93 29 points 7 hours ago
Pop forcing other guys out to play his own smh.
[–]Hawks daeve 29 points 5 hours ago
ESPN: Will Pop's ego cost us the gold medal?
[–]Supersonics IndianaGnomes 147 points 8 hours ago
Fox got less playtime than Derrick White against Spain. If he ain't gonna play, can't really blame him for dropping out.
[–]whatswrongboy 97 points 7 hours ago
This is completely normal for exhibition games, what are you talking about
[–]Bulls truballa030 12 points 6 hours ago
that's what I was thinking at first, but then Donovan and Kemba played like the most minutes, so idk..
[–][UTA] Derrick Favors BusSeatFabric 73 points 8 hours ago
I mean he only got 6 minutes last night and Marcus Smart sat out with an injury.
Not sure if this will be the case going forward, but last night they had Mitchell slide down from the 2 and play backup pg when Kemba came out for rest.
[–][UTA] Rudy Gobert fieldteam 101 points 8 hours ago
Still would have been shocked to see Fox cut though. From all accounts he was unstoppable in camp.
[–]Thunder Ssumday_is_love[ ] 183 points 9 hours ago
he looked super solid whenever he played
[–][UTA] Derrick Favors BusSeatFabric 22 points 8 hours ago
Yeah I mean we really only heard that the first couple days in camp and it's been pretty quiet on that front since then.
I still figured he was a lock too but maybe Pop is really big on having a defensive stopper like Smart instead of more speed and scoring from the backup spot
[–]Supersonics IndianaGnomes 47 points 8 hours ago
And yet Derrick White still got more minutes. He may not have been cut, but he probably wasn't going to play very much.
[–]Jaylen BTarantino 70 points 9 hours ago
Maybe he didn’t play because he was planning on withdrawing.
[–]Lakers Jan-22-2006 50 points 8 hours ago
The opposite more likely . Both Team USA and Fox had an agreement he was leaving, so they limited his PT in order to prevent injuries.
[–]Kings MedievalValor 17 points 7 hours ago
What kind of rational laker fan are you?
[–]Hornets Namath96 38 points 8 hours ago
Then why did he play at all? Seems more likely that he’s figured he isn’t getting a ton of PT so he may as well drop out
[–]Rockets MMO4life 22 points 4 hours ago
Because a few weeks ago he didn’t know he’ll play for the Kings and he didn’t know we wanted to focus on the NBA season. He suddenly remembered it yesterday.
[–]Kings xowgl 29 points 7 hours ago
Fox works under Vlade Divac, and is teammates with two of Serbia's starting 5.
Who is USA's biggest competition in this World Cup? Serbia!
Fox was a sleeper agent for team Serbia.
[–]Kings ReggieEvansTheKing 36 points 9 hours ago
Honestly the biggest factor is that he probably doesn’t want to fly all the way to Australia/China to play less than 10 mpg when he could be prepping for the season with his teammates and relaxing a bit the rest of his summer.
[–]flippeddafkout 8 points 1 day ago
Ok I never played high school ball, I'm pushing 40 and quite frankly Im not very good but I'm an American citizen with a valid passport. Do I have a shot to make the team?
[–]Thunder adishooor 7 points 1 day ago
This is getting embarrasing.
[–]splittonguestudios 486 points 1 day ago
You've absolutely got to be joking me at this point.

[–]Celtics solodolo1397 9 points 1 day ago

[–][WAS] Michael Jordan deadla104 62 points 1 day ago
Could you imagine the hate for the Celts if their players lost it for the US
[–]Celtics DarkenedLite 20 points 1 day ago
Like you guys don’t hate the Celts already
[–][BOS] Isaiah Thomas ChickenJesus 84 points 1 day ago
Gotta start “fuck the Celtics” season off right I guess
[–][BOS] Terry Rozier King_Of_Pants 41 points 1 day ago
The young Celtics were barely in that G-league scrimmage and they're already getting blamed.
Smart and Brown didn't play at all. Tatum left the court at 10-16 and the final score was 17-36.
[–]Celtics SiakamIsOverrated 49 points 1 day ago
Context doesn’t matter on here lol
[–]kdbiggestdick 36 points 1 day ago
People blame Lebron for 2004 and he was a rookie on the end of the bench not playing. Narratives can't be stopped.
[–]Spurs 33bour 1495 points 1 day ago
At this point I'm waiting for Pop to drop out
[–]Raptors _19911118 121 points 1 day ago
I wouldnt blame him tbh really wished he had a better squad
[–]Raptors ClassicTonight 161 points 1 day ago
I honestly feel like pop likes the challenge
[–][CHI] Lauri Markkanen TheAnonymousUsername 93 points 1 day ago
And it’s young guys and he can use whatever system and style he wants.
If a guy like Harden was there Pop wouldn’t really be able to play the style he (Pop) wants.
Windhorst and Simmons were talking about this on a recent pod.
Also gets Pop time to work with young guys which could be more beneficial to the Spurs than working with guys like Harden, KD, LeBron, etc.
[–]West mainvolume 27 points 1 day ago
I think he likes the younger guys. They all want to learn from him, by the sound of it. Sure Pop loves the old vets too but I think he prefers to mold the younger guys.
[–]Warriors HappyCrabDay 60 points 1 day ago
It's becoming a realistic possibility the team might not finish first in the FIBA tournament, which would be very embarrassing. I definitely wouldn't be surprised if more people dipped out.
[–]NSS01 69 points 1 day ago
It already was a realistic possibility before the last like 10 dropouts/cuts
[–][LAL] Elgin Baylor WordsAreSomething 181 points 1 day ago
Such a weird decision to me.
[–][TOR] Andrea Bargnani PrimoPastaMVP 135 points 1 day ago*
The fuck? After weeks of all the tweets about how great he was for team usa.
[–][CHI] Lauri Markkanen 12temp 33 points 1 day ago
correct me if i'm wrong but wasn't there a ton of reporting on him like REALLY wanting to be on team USA?
[–][UTA] Derrick Favors BusSeatFabric 59 points 1 day ago
Honestly I wouldn't put too much stock into that.
There has been the same kind of reporting about Mitchell and I'm fairly certain in both cases it's just their PR teams generating hype for their guys.
[–][TOR] OG Anunoby IamSofakingRAW 217 points 1 day ago
Why are these guys going this far in the tryout process just to leave and fuck over the coaches? What if they cut a guy thinking you were going to possibly be who played that position, then you up and leave in the last hour?
[–]bigbrainmaxx 130 points 1 day ago
Because they want to feel how it is to be coached by popovich
[–]76ers IsntAThrowawayAcct 79 points 1 day ago
What? Because imagine how valuable a 2 week camp with Pop and some of the leagues best players would be for a 22 year old up and comer.
He clearly gained what he needed from it and didnt see the next few weeks as worth it for 7 minutes a game or w/e.
Pop doesnt mind now he can put his own guy on the team in white without anyone yelling favorites. Fox did him a favor.
[–]DaKingindaSouff 45 points 1 day ago
This legit might be the worst team USA ever. Will make the playing field more leveled and excited. Kind of excited to see this happen.
[–][CHI] John Paxson ImRBJ 680 points 1 day ago
If the World Cup started in July/August instead of August/September, we'd have way less withdrawals
[–]Spurs Have_Another_Comma 251 points 1 day ago
Agreed. Absolutely needs to be moved up. Plus that is the absolute worst time for sports so they'd get more run. Why overlap with the start of football
[–]76ers theonlyjuan123 16 points 1 day ago
It also overlaps with the start of La Liga and premier league.
[–]ifeellikeyeezus 600 points 1 day ago
Well yeah but its a world cup and the rest of the world doesnt revolve around the US and our basketball and tv schedules
[–]Nets StewartTurkeylink 167 points 1 day ago*
No but I imagine the people in charge of organizing the World Cup also probably want US eyeballs and $$$ to make their venture more profitable. Hard to do that when all the top US talent is dropping out due to the timing of the tournament.
[–][CHA] Kemba Walker imeanYOLOright 86 points 1 day ago
I mean, all of the world's major soccer leagues have been starting back in the last few weeks, too. It's not just (American) football.
For basically any international tournament, July is a sweet spot to keep from competing with other sports and leagues.
[–]Wizards ireddit270 28 points 1 day ago
It also impacts European basketball leagues as well. Nikola Mirotic (FC Barcelona) and many other big name internationals are declining for the same reasons .
A lot of these guys are getting paid way more by their pro club teams than whatever benefits they get from national team play.
[–]Warriors Dashyiir 86 points 1 day ago
I don't understand, in Europe it is an honor to be called to national team but americans seems not to give a fuck
[–]NBA BringMeLeHorizon 21 points 1 day ago
America winning at basketball isn’t an achievement, it’s an expectation
[–]redditemailone 107 points 1 day ago
americans don't give a fuck. there's nothing to give a fuck about. it's a secondary league against second tier players for the most part and it jeopardizes their million dollar contracts with the NBA, the best league in the world
it makes no sense from a business or personal perspective. it's second-rate basketball with all the real risks of injury
the reason non-americans care more is because they're the underdogs. americans are supposed to win so there isn't much to be gained, only to be lost.
[–]Warriors Dashyiir 13 points 1 day ago
I mean if you guys see representing your country as a business then ok I understand
[–]Trail Blazers fowaddaud 40 points 1 day ago
They're playing basketball, not going to war
[–]Celtics TheTurtleOne 44 points 1 day ago
It's really ironic cause Americans like to preach their American Pride.
[–][SEA] Detlef Schrempf Bleoox 21 points 1 day ago*
Yes Americans are known for that, but you can't blame them if they want to focus on their actual job that's paying them millions of dollars per year.
[–]Knicks RobbobertoBuii 222 points 1 day ago
trust me, next year's olympics will have every superstar in the nba trying to get a spot
[–]Bulls VenerableHate 46 points 1 day ago
Yep, Stephen Curry is playing as long as he doesn't get injured.
Lebron might be back for one last olympics as well.
[–]Kings sirwestonlaw 7 points 1 day ago
Imagine if Lebron misses the playoffs and can be prepping for the Olympics for much longer.
[–]Bulls VenerableHate 44 points 1 day ago
If Lebron misses the playoffs, Anthony Davis is going to be withdrawing from the Olympics to prepare for his season with the Miami Heat.
[–]Spurs Elec7ro 31 points 1 day ago
Team USA backup point guard Derrick White
[–]Lakers aryusuf 86 points 1 day ago
I think this saves Derrick white. His PG skills are needed. Final cut guess: Probably Joe Harris
[–]kaross232 58 points 1 day ago
I think they’ll keep him just to have a guy who’s a sharpshooter on the roster
[–]Celtics fatcocksinmybum 50 points 1 day ago
He’s not a sharpshooter with the FIBA ball, apparently he’s been bricking a ton in camp
[–]Mavericks gigantism 9 points 1 day ago
I wonder whether playing with the FIBA ball and FIBA rules fucks up the players' muscle memory when they go back to the NBA.
[–]nenadnpfk 12 points 1 day ago
Hm, no. There's a lot of players who played season of their careers after summer national team play. For example Derrick Rose in 2011
[–]NBA USTS2011 15 points 1 day ago
Brunson about to be a starter
[–]Celtics De-Ranker 3 points 1 day ago
Don't show up to the camps if you're not going to play
[–]Purple Geezus 3 points 1 day ago
That’s fine. I heard we actually have a volunteer who wants to join!
Oh wait... the one person that actually wants to play got denied? RIP Carmelo
[–]Nets youngthugisyourmom 128 points 1 day ago
They said melo would cause a distraction, but it looks like they didn’t need him to be a shit show
[–]Knicks midgetman433 43 points 1 day ago
literally no one gives a shit about this team, and no one is paying attention to it. but Jerry Colangelo though Melo would bring unwanted media attention.
